Discover the natural surroundings of Arbus Sardinia
A land to discover
Arbus is known for its varied landscapes, characterised by mountains, mines and wild coastlines. This part of south-western Sardinia is particularly appreciated by enthusiasts of trekking, mountain biking and enduro riding, who will find wide open spaces, scenic routes and a strong connection with nature.
Mount Arcuentu
Monte Arcuentu is one of the most distinctive mountains in south-western Sardinia. Its long, jagged dark ridge—remnant of an ancient volcanic system—dominates the landscape between the inland area of Arbus and the Costa Verde coast. Rising to 785 meters, it stands out for its curved profile and the surrounding natural environment of Mediterranean scrub, rocky slopes, and wide views that on clear days extend all the way to the sea.
The mountain is a popular destination for hikers. With proper equipment and suitable weather conditions, the summit can be reached via several trails that cross the scrubland and climb along the rocky ridge. The hike usually takes about 3 hours to ascend and around 2 hours and 30 minutes to descend, rewarding visitors with one of the most striking viewpoints in the area.

Costa Verde
Costa Verde is the long stretch of coastline that runs along the Marina di Arbus, in south-western Sardinia. This wild shoreline extends for about 47 kilometres, alternating long sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and Mediterranean scrub that reaches down to the sea. The landscape is shaped by strong winds and wide golden dunes, some of the highest in Europe, making this coastline one of the most striking and unspoiled natural environments on the island.
Among the best-known beaches are the wide sandy expanses of Scivu and Piscinas, while the coastline stretches from Torre dei Corsari in the north to Capo Pecora in the south. Closer to Montevecchio, and easily reached in about 20 minutes by car, are the beaches of Funtanazza and Marina di Gutturu e Flumini, ideal starting points for discovering the sea of the Costa Verde and enjoying one of the most authentic and unspoiled coastal areas of Sardinia.

Piscinas Dunes
The Piscinas Dunes, located along the Costa Verde in the municipality of Arbus, are one of the most remarkable natural landscapes in Sardinia. This extensive dune system covers about 28 square kilometres and features golden sand dunes shaped by the mistral winds, rising up to 100 metres high, a height that places them among the tallest coastal dunes in Europe.
The dunes extend inland from the coastline for about two kilometres, creating an almost desert-like landscape where sand merges with Mediterranean vegetation before reaching the sea. Today this area is one of the most iconic environments of the Costa Verde, known for its wild nature, silence and vast open spaces.
